20th Anniversary Extended: Disney Light’Ears

Disney Light’Ears, known as Glow with the Show in Disneyland California, will be introduced to Disneyland Paris during the Summer Season.

These glow-up ears can make an infrared connection with the Mouse-mitters (a Disney transmitter) that are located on Main Street, U.S.A. and around the hub. During Disney Dreams, the ears will light up to the sound and visuals of Disneyland Paris’ highest-rated night time spectacular.

The Light’Ears have three different modes: light-up, sync and show mode. Light-up means the colors will change without involving an infrared connection. The syncing mode can be activated by simply putting one or more Light’Ears nearby. After a while, the ears will gradually show the same colors simultaneously. In show mode, the light will perform during Disney Dreams or World of Color, as the Disneyland Paris ears can be used in the Disneyland California and the other way around.

Good to know: special system will be installed in dark rides that will automatically shut off the glowing so the attraction experience won’t be disturbed.

Guests wishing to purchase these ears will have to put down 20 EUR, compared to $25 in California.

During the 20th Anniversary Extended press event, all journalist were handed a pair of Light’Ears to watch Disney Dreams, which offered an amazing vista that can be seen on the photos below.

20th Anniversary Extended: New scenes in Disney Dreams!

Simba and Merida, the main characters from Disney’s The Lion King and Disney-Pixar’s Brave have now joined one of Disneyland Paris’ highest rated shows ever: Disney Dreams!

Visitors of the official Disneyland Paris Facebook where asked a few months back which their favorite Disney movies were. Both Brave and The Lion King stuck out, which resulted in the replacing of The Jungle Book and Mary Poppins scenes.

The Lion Book scene opens with the rising sun and the classic Circle of Life begin tune, shortly followed by I can’t wait to be king and closed by Hakuna Mata. The waterfall effect first seen in The Jungle Book scene is used here once again.

The Brave scene starts with the Will-o’-the-wisps hovering over Sleeping Beauty Castle, while the Ancient Stones rise up from the ground. Merida is next riding on her horse, Angus. The scene ends with a colorful Scottish hoe-down. The songs used in these scenes are Touch the Sky and Remember to Smile.

20th Anniversary Extended: Designers of Dreams fashion show

Saturday 23 March 2013 was a hay day for Disneyland Paris Cast Members at the marketing department, as fashion show, entirely in line with what’s presented at the Parisian Fashion Week.

Disneyland Paris asked famous fashion designers all over Europe to re-imagine the dresses from famous Disney characters. Nine designers took up the challenge and send their models down the catwalk in The Pavilion, located behind Star Tours.

The designers and their inspiration were:

  • The House of Lanvin had Alber Elbaz designed a true diva dress for Minnie Mouse, who opened show.
  • Jean-Paul Knott (Belgium) was clearly inspired by the famous apple in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
  • SISTER by SIBLING (United Kingdom) took note from Cinderella. It featured a digital clock on the front piece indicating it was almost time to leave the ball.
  • MICHALSKY (Germany) took note from Cinderella’s dress as well.
  • Alexander Terekhov (Russia) travelled down the Rabbit Hole with Alice in Wonderland in mind.
  • Philip Treacy (Ireland) created a Peter Pan-inspired hat in green and red tones.
  • Custo Barcelona (Spain) re-imagined Maleficent.
  • Luisa Beccaria (Italy) took inspiration from Disney’s Aladdin.
  • Olcay Gulsen – SuperTrash (the Netherlands) seems to have been inspired by the starry sky in The Lion King.

Take a look at the dresses as they were presented during the Designers of Dreams show:

Is it time to close the curtain for Hollywood Pictures?

A LEGO Store was recently announced unofficially through a job posting for “the opening of the largest LEGO retail outlet in Europe, ideally situated in the Disney Village in Marne la Vallée”. Immediately rumors started circulating message boards and social media claiming this new shop will replace the existing Hollywood Pictures.

Press release: The Walt Disney Co. to refinance debt with 1,3 billion EUR

Euro Disney SCA released this press release yesterday evening announcing a 1,3 billion euros deal with the Walt Disney Company that would refinance the current debt of the resort.

To read more and discuss, visit the magicforum topic.

(Marne-la-Vallée, on 18 September 2012) – Euro Disney S.C.A., parent company of Euro Disney Associés S.C.A., operator of Disneyland® Paris, announces the refinancing Euro Disney group’s debt (excluding debt already extended by The Walt Disney Company) with new financing provided by The Walt Disney Company and two of its French subsidiaries, for an overall amount of 1,332 million euros.
The workers’ council has been consulted on the transaction and has rendered a favourable opinion thereon. In addition, the consent of all the creditors, necessary to implement the transaction, has been obtained.

The Supervisory Board of Euro Disney Associés S.C.A. met today and approved the transaction.

With this refinancing, the Group’s average interest rate on its debt decreases meaningfully and the Group benefits from greater operational flexibility by removing the restrictive covenants under existing debt agreements, notably those related to restrictions on capital expenditures. Moreover, the extended maturity of the total debt to 2030 together with a more gradual debt repayment schedule will better position the Group to invest in long-term growth and drive value for all shareholders. The transaction is expected to close on 27 September 2012.

« This refinancing will enable us to reduce our financing costs and give us greater investment and operational flexibility. This is a key step in the development of our Resort that we pursue for the benefit for all of our stakeholders. I strongly believe this will be highly beneficial to the Company, its cast members and shareholders.», declared Philippe Gas, Chief Executive Officer of Euro Disney S.A.S.

Philippe Gas added: « The Walt Disney Company, with this transaction, reaffirms its continued confidence in Disneyland® Paris which has successfully become, over the past 20 years, the number one tourist destination in Europe, a growth driver of French tourism and an important ambassador of the Disney brand across Europe ».

New menu concept at The Lucky Nugget Saloon

The Lucky Nugget Saloon, which was once upon a time a dinner show and later a buffet restaurant with Disney characters, closed for a refurbishment of the kitchen.

Since its reopening earlier, flyers are now being distributed at the hotels and City Hall to promote a brand new menu deal called “Menus Lucky”. For 15,99 euros you can choose one main course and dessert and get unlimited soft drink refills.

The options are:
Main course: Angust Cheeseburger or pork spare ribs or fish & chips
Dessert: Vanilla cream with red fruits or Chocolate tart.

It’s not clear whether other items could be ordered, as there is no vegetarian option listed on this flyer!

This is the second restaurant in Disneyland Park that offers unlimited soft drink refills. This concept was tried out earlier at Buzz Lightyear’s Pizza Planet and has proven to be successful.

Disney Fashion completes its make-over

Disney Fashion was once known as Team Mickey, a store carrying mostly sporting gear. A few years ago however, the sports theme and merchandising was removed and replaced by a more modern take on the theming by using white glossy statues of characters lit up by colorful lights. The assortment moved from sportive to fashion, offering a similar assortment that can by found at Main Street Motors.

Last year however a different take on how the articles where presented was tried out on one side of the shop. No longer ordinary store shelves and hangers, but contemporary wardrobes, chairs and oversized frames had to make sure every product stood out. This formula proved to be successful as the entire store has now received the new theming. Besides clothes, Disney Fashion now offers matching bags, photo frames, stationary and more as well.
